About

South Trout Lake Campground provides a classic northwoods camping experience on one of Wisconsin's premier fishing lakes. Trout Lake spans 3,816 acres with exceptional depth, making it ideal for boating, kayaking, and angling. The stony lakebed limits swimming but the clear waters and forested shoreline create a scenic backdrop for camping. The campground features 23 non-electric rustic sites numbered 1001-1023. Sites 1003-1004 and 1006-1007 are designated double campsites that can accommodate up to 12 people and two wheeled camping units, making them suitable for larger groups. Sites 1013-1016 are walk-in tent-only sites requiring a short hike from the parking area, offering more seclusion. All other sites accommodate standard tent and RV/trailer camping with back-in access. Facilities include one vault toilet building, a hand pump providing potable water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. A boat launch provides direct lake access. The paved Heart of Vilas County bike trail runs through the campground, connecting riders to Crystal Lake and St. Germain in one direction and Boulder Junction in the other. Campers needing a dump station can use the facility at North Trout Lake Campground nearby. A campground host is present during the busy season.
