About

North Trout Lake Campground occupies a scenic position on the northeast corner of Trout Lake, one of the larger lakes in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest at 3,816 acres. The lake offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities along with good swimming access directly from the campground. Sites 1401-1448 include standard individual sites, double campsites (1403-1404, 1407-1408, 1435-1436, 1437-1438) that accommodate up to 12 people and two wheeled camping units, and walk-to tent-only sites (1415-1419, 1446-1448) where campers park nearby and walk a short distance to their site. As a rustic campground, facilities are minimal but functional: three ADA-accessible vault toilet buildings, three hand pumps providing potable water, and a sanitary dump station. Trash and recycling dumpsters are provided. The campground sells firewood, and campers may gather dead wood from the forest floor for campfires. A paved multi-use trail connects North Trout to Boulder Junction, Sayner, St. Germain, and Crystal Lake Campground, making it a convenient base for cyclists exploring the region. Reservations are required and can be made through wisconsin.goingtocamp.com up to 11 months in advance or same-day. Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout at 1 p.m. Maximum stay is 14 days within any 21-day period.
