About
North Trout Lake Campground is a traditional rustic campground located in the central portion of Northern Highland American Legion State Forest on the northeast corner of Trout Lake. The campground offers 48 sites including standard campsites, four double campsites that accommodate up to 12 people and two-wheeled camping units, and eight walk-to tent-only sites. All sites are reservable and spaced for a quieter camping experience. The 3,816-acre Trout Lake provides excellent opportunities for fishing and boating, with good swimming access available within the campground. Campground amenities include three ADA-accessible vault toilet buildings, three hand pumps for drinking water, a sanitary dump station, separate trash and recycling dumpsters, a boat launch with parking, and a large area for water access. Firewood is available for sale at the campground. The campground offers direct access to both a hiking trail and the paved Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail, which connects to nearby communities including Boulder Junction, Sayner, St. Germain, and Crystal Lake Campground. The campground's location within the 236,000-acre state forest provides access to over 900 lakes and extensive wilderness recreation opportunities.

From Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, head south on County Highway M for approximately 3 miles. The campground entrance is on the right, marked by signage for North Trout Lake Campground.
