About
Upper Deadman Campground sits at 7,800 feet in a pine forest setting along Deadman Creek in the Inyo National Forest, offering a quiet basecamp for exploring the volcanic landscape between Mammoth Lakes and June Lake. This free primitive campground provides 20 sites for tent and car camping only on a first-come-first-served basis with self-registration upon arrival. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are available, but campers must bring all their own drinking water as none is provided. A limited number of bear lockers are shared among sites, so proper food storage practices are essential. The 14-day stay limit applies, and quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The campground is not suitable for RV camping due to the terrain and access road. Nearby Deadman Creek offers fishing opportunities, and the area provides access to hiking and the unique volcanic features of the Long Valley Caldera region.
Directions
From US 395 and Highway 203 junction (Mammoth Lakes turnoff), drive 8.2 miles north on US 395. Turn west onto Deadman Creek Road and follow for approximately 3.2 miles to Upper Deadman Campground.
