About

Old Shady Rest Campground is a large facility nestled in a mature Jeffrey pine forest at 7,800 feet elevation, within walking distance of the full-service community of Mammoth Lakes. The campground features 47 campsites arranged in a single loop adjacent to New Shady Rest and Pine Glen Campgrounds. The location is ideal for campers who want convenient access to town amenities while enjoying a forested camping experience. The Mammoth Lakes area offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. The eastern Sierras are renowned for their challenging hiking and mountain biking trails, world-class trout fishing in nearby creeks and lakes, and proximity to major ski resorts. Popular day trips include Devils Postpile National Monument, Yosemite National Park, and Mono Basin. A paved walking and biking trail connects the campground to town parks and other nearby campgrounds. Wildlife is abundant in this area, including black bears, mountain lions, mule deer, pine martens, and numerous bird species. This is an active bear area, and all food must be stored in the provided bear-proof lockers. The campground provides flush toilets, drinking water from hand pumps, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Showers are available nearby in town.

Directions

Take U.S. Highway 395 to State Route 203. Proceed west on 203 for 2.8 miles to Old Sawmill Road. Take a right, go 0.5 mile. The campground entrance is on the left.
