About
Old Shady Rest Campground offers 47 campsites beneath a mature Jeffrey pine canopy in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. At 7,800 feet elevation, the campground provides a cool forested retreat within walking distance of the full-service town of Mammoth Lakes. Sites include picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Flush toilets and potable water from hand pumps are available throughout the campground, along with a dump station for RV users. The Mammoth Lakes area is renowned for its exceptional trout fishing in nearby creeks and lakes, challenging trails for hikers and mountain bikers, and world-class skiing in winter. A paved walking and biking trail connects the campground to two nearby campgrounds, a town park with a playing field and skate park, and downtown Mammoth Lakes. Day trips to Yosemite National Park, Mono Basin, and Devils Postpile National Monument are easily accessible. The campground is an active bear area, and all food and scented items must be stored in the provided bear boxes (48" x 30" x 36"). Quiet hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Showers are not available on-site but can be found nearby in town.
Directions
Take US Highway 395 to State Route 203. Proceed west on 203 for 2.8 miles to Old Sawmill Road. Turn right, go 0.5 mile. The campground entrance is on the left.
