About
Agnew Horse Camp sits at 8,400 feet elevation in Reds Meadow Valley, surrounded by lodgepole pines and high Sierra peaks. The four equestrian campsites each include a horse corral, bear-proof food locker, picnic table, and fire ring. Potable water is available via hand pump and vault toilets serve the campground. The camp provides direct access to premier backcountry riding including the Pacific Crest Trail, High Trail, Shadow Creek Trail, and River Trail leading into the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Devils Postpile National Monument and Rainbow Falls are nearby. Reds Meadow Pack Station down the road offers a general store and cafe. Bear activity is historically high in this area. All food and scented items must be stored in the provided bear boxes. Mosquitoes are abundant in early-to-mid summer. The high elevation requires acclimatization for both riders and horses arriving from lower elevations.
Directions
From US Highway 395, take Highway 203 west through Mammoth Lakes. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Minaret Road and continue past Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge and Minaret Vista Station. Continue on Reds Meadow Road to the Agnew Meadows turnoff, about 2.5 miles past the entrance station.
