About
Hartley Springs Campground is a free, first-come first-served campground offering 25 sites nestled in pine forest at 8,400 feet elevation in the Inyo National Forest. Positioned between June Mountain and Obsidian Dome, this remote campground provides access to the tributaries of the Owens River headwaters and nearby backcountry OHV/ATV trails. The campground operates on a self-registration system with a 14-day stay limit. No drinking water is available on-site, so campers must bring an adequate supply. Vault toilets are provided. This is bear country and no bear lockers are available, so proper food and trash storage is essential. Access is via Obsidian Dome Road west from US 395 north of Mammoth Lakes, then north on Forest Road 2S48. The remote setting offers a true wilderness experience with no nearby stores or development, making it ideal for those seeking solitude in the Eastern Sierra high country.
