About
Hartley Springs Campground offers a quiet, no-fee camping experience in the high country between June Mountain and Obsidian Dome. At 8,400 feet elevation, the 25 campsites are nestled in pine forest with access to tributaries feeding the headwaters of the Owens River. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Facilities are basic but functional: vault toilets, picnic tables, and bear lockers for securing food and trash. There is no potable water on site, so campers must bring their own supply. Each site accommodates up to 6 people and 2 vehicles. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the maximum stay is 14 days. The campground provides a good base for exploring the surrounding volcanic landscape, including nearby Obsidian Dome. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash throughout the campground.
Directions
From US 395 north of Mammoth Lakes, go west on Obsidian Dome Road, then north on Forest Road 2S48.
