About

New Shady Rest Campground is a well-established facility in the Inyo National Forest, nestled in a shady grove of Jeffrey pines at 7,800 feet. Located just off Highway 203 near Mammoth Lakes, the campground provides easy access to town amenities while maintaining a forested mountain setting. The 92 campsites accommodate both tents and RVs up to 36 feet. The campground features flush toilets, potable water available from hand pumps, and bear-proof food storage lockers at each site. A dump station is available for $10 per use. Firewood can be purchased on-site, and the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center is located across the street. A paved walking and biking trail connects the campground to Old Shady Rest, Pine Glen campgrounds, a town park, and downtown Mammoth Lakes. The surrounding area offers exceptional recreation including hiking, mountain biking, and trout fishing in nearby creeks and lakes. Day trips to Yosemite National Park, Mono Basin, and Devils Postpile National Monument are popular. This is an active bear area; use of bear boxes is mandatory.
