About
New Shady Rest Campground sits in a shady canopy of mature Jeffrey pine trees at 7,800 feet elevation, offering convenient access to the town of Mammoth Lakes and numerous outdoor activities in the eastern Sierra Nevada. The campground is organized into two large loops with 92 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs, located adjacent to Old Shady Rest and Pine Glen Campgrounds. The Mammoth Lakes area provides exceptional recreation opportunities year-round. The majestic scenery and challenging trails attract hikers and mountain bikers, while the eastern Sierras are renowned for exceptional trout fishing in nearby creeks and lakes. Mammoth Mountain offers world-class skiing in winter. A paved walking and biking trail connects the campground to town, other campgrounds, and local parks. The Mammoth Lakes Visitor Center sits across the street, providing educational opportunities and current activity information. Wildlife is abundant in the area, including black bears, mountain lions, mule deer, pine martens, pikas, and numerous bird species. Bear-proof lockers are provided at each site and must be used for all food storage. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. The campground location also makes it an ideal base for day trips to Yosemite National Park, Devils Postpile National Monument, and Mono Basin.
