Deadman Campground (Upper and Lower) is a free, primitive camping area located in the Owens River Headwaters region of Inyo National Forest, accessed via Deadman Creek Road off US 395 north of Mammoth Lakes. At 7,800 feet elevation, the campground offers 20 sites amid a pine forest setting with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Facilities are basic: vault toilets and picnic tables are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. A limited number of bear lockers are shared among sites, and proper food storage is essential in this area. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations and no fees. There is a 14-day stay limit. This site is designated for tent and car camping only and is not suitable for RVs.
