About

Union Creek Campground is one of the largest Forest Service campgrounds in eastern Oregon, nestled on the northern shore of Phillips Reservoir within the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Located 18 miles south of Baker City along Highway 7, the campground sits amid mature ponderosa pine and fir forest with scenic views of the surrounding Elkhorn Mountains. The campground is part of the Union Creek Recreation Area, which includes a picnic area, day-use facilities, and boat launch. The campground features over 60 sites spread across three loops, offering a variety of camping options from basic tent sites to full hookup RV sites. Loop A provides full hookups with water, sewer, and electric, while Loops B and C offer partial hookups with water and electric. The paved and gravel parking spurs can accommodate large RVs. Four group sites are available for larger gatherings of up to 60 people. Walk-in tent sites provide a more secluded camping experience. Phillips Reservoir offers excellent opportunities for swimming at a small rocky beach, fishing for bass, trout, and perch, and water sports including boating, waterskiing, and jet skiing. The campground provides access to the Phillips Lake Shoreline Trail, a scenic hiking and mountain biking trail that can be connected to form a 16-mile loop around the lake. The historic gold mining town of Sumpter is about 10 miles away, where visitors can explore the Sumpter Dredge State Heritage Park or ride a historic steam locomotive.
