About
South Fork Campground is located along the South Fork of the Burnt River in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest's Southern Elkhorn Mountains/Powder River Basin area. The campground was reconstructed in 2008 and again in 2019, and now features 12 tent/trailer sites and 2 tent-only sites with pull-through parking areas nestled under cool pine and fir trees. The campground serves as a popular base camp from late spring through fall for anglers fishing the South Fork of the Burnt River, OHV enthusiasts riding the nearby Blue Mountain and South Fork OHV Trail systems, and hunters during season. The area offers moderate use levels and provides vault toilets and picnic tables at each site. Sites are available for $15 per night on a first-come, first-served basis. Access is via County Road 600 (South Fork Burnt River Road) from Unity, traveling about 7.5 miles to Forest Road 6005. The campground entrance is on the left side of the road, approximately half a mile past the forest boundary. Campers should be prepared to bring their own water and pay fees with cash or check at the self-service fee station.
