The following message is transmitted on behalf of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division, and the Wyoming Department of Health. * WHAT...Air Quality Alert for Wildfire Smoke. * WHERE...All of Western and Central Wyoming * WHEN...Now through Noon Monday. * IMPACTS...Smoke from western United States wildfires continues to be observed across much of western and central Wyoming. The smoke is limiting visibilities at times. HEALTH INFORMATION...The Wyoming Department of Health recommends that the elderly, young children, and individuals with respiratory problems avoid excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities during this time. Wildfire smoke is made up of a variety of pollutants, including particulate matter and ozone, which can cause respiratory health effects. Although these people are most susceptible to health impacts, the Department of Health also advises that everyone should avoid prolonged exposure to poor air quality conditions. CURRENT CONDITIONS...The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division offers near real-time air quality data for Wyoming's monitoring stations and health effects information to help the public interpret current conditions. Turpin Meadow Campground sits in the Buffalo Valley of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, about 17 miles east of Moran Junction and south of Yellowstone National Park. The campground caters particularly to equestrian users, featuring corrals, hitching posts, a stock tank, and designated areas for tethering stock. All 18 sites are non-electric, with four pull-through sites that can accommodate rigs up to 66 feet. Amenities include three vault restrooms, potable water available from a hand pump, bear-proof food storage boxes at each site, dumpsters for trash disposal, and a game storage pole for hunters. The campground serves as a staging area for backcountry trips into the Teton Wilderness via the nearby Turpin Meadow Trailhead. Bears are active in the area, and all food and scented items must be stored in bear boxes or locked vehicles. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through September 15, with a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Senior/Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on single site fees.

Directions

From Moran, Wyoming, head east on US-26/287 for about 13 miles. Turn left onto Turpin Meadows Ranch Road (Forest Road 30050). Continue 4 miles, then turn right onto Turpin Meadows Loop (Forest Road 30065). The campground entrance is on the right. Total distance from Moran is approximately 17.5 miles, about 23 minutes.
