About
Atherton Creek Campground is located on Lower Slide Lake in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, approximately 21 miles from Jackson, Wyoming. This scenic campground offers 20 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, providing a quiet retreat from the crowds of Grand Teton National Park while remaining less than 30 minutes from park entrances. The campground features excellent access to Lower Slide Lake for both motorized and non-motorized boating, with a boat ramp and small dock available at the adjacent Atherton Creek Boating Site. The lake is known for quality trout fishing and peaceful evenings on the water with opportunities for wildlife viewing. The paved Gros Ventre River Road winds through beautiful aspen stands with gorgeous views of the Gros Ventre River valley. Sites include picnic tables and fire pits, with vault toilets available. Water is provided via hand pump during the operating season. The campground operates from late spring through September 22 annually, with all amenities turned off after closure. The area is subject to bear food storage orders, and visitors should be prepared for no cellular service.
Directions
From Jackson, head north on US-189 for 7 miles, turn right on Lower Gros Ventre Road for 8 miles through Kelly, Wyoming, then turn right on Gros Ventre River Road (FR 30400). Continue 6 miles to campground entrance on right. Total distance: 21 miles, approximately 32 minutes.
