About
Brooks Lake Campground sits at 9,200 feet elevation in the Shoshone National Forest, offering 13 campsites with stunning views of Brooks Lake and the surrounding Absaroka Range. Each site features RV parking, a tent pad, bear box, fire ring with grill, and picnic table. The campground serves as a gateway to the Washakie Wilderness, with trails departing directly from camp to access a network of backcountry mountain lakes. The campground provides vault toilets but campers must bring their own drinking water as the water system is currently inoperable. Food storage in the provided bear boxes is mandatory due to active bear presence in the area. Payment is by cash or check only. Activities include fishing on Brooks Lake, day hiking, backpacking into the wilderness, and wildlife viewing. The high elevation means snow-dependent opening dates, typically mid to late June, with closure around October 20. A 16-day stay limit applies. The campground is not accessible to those with mobility impairments.
