About

Box Creek Trailhead provides backcountry access to the Teton Wilderness in the Blackrock Ranger District of Bridger-Teton National Forest. The 13.3-mile Box Creek Trail leads north from this trailhead to Enos Lake and connects with the Pacific Creek Trail system. While not as popular as other Teton Wilderness access points, it sees regular use by ranger patrols, outfitters, and hunters during fall season. The trailhead sits at the end of a challenging one-lane road that climbs from Buffalo Valley Road. Facilities are minimal: a vault toilet and stock corral for horse trailer parking. No potable water is available, and campsites are no longer formally maintained. This is prime grizzly bear habitat, so proper food storage is mandatory. The remote location and rugged access make this area best suited for experienced backcountry users with high-clearance vehicles.

Directions

From Moran Junction, head east on US Highway 26/287. Turn north onto Buffalo Valley Road and continue approximately 8 miles to the trailhead. The final stretch is a challenging one-lane uphill road.
