About
Hatchet Campground is a small Forest Service campground situated along Highway 26 in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, approximately 8 miles east of Moran, Wyoming. With 17 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, it serves as an ideal overnight stop for travelers on the scenic highway between Jackson and Dubois. The campground is particularly popular during fall hunting season as a staging area. Each campsite is equipped with a campfire ring, and bear-resistant food storage boxes are provided throughout the campground due to active bear presence in the area. A single vault toilet serves the facility, and a dumpster is available for trash disposal. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 24 feet, with some pull-through options available. The campground has a 2-vehicle maximum per site, with an additional fee for a second vehicle. The location provides access to nearby wild and scenic rivers for fishing opportunities. The campground operates seasonally and is managed by the Blackrock Ranger District. When amenities are shut down for the season, the gate remains open for free, no-fee camping, though services like water and trash removal are not available.
