Turner Flat Campground is located along the St. Joe Wild and Scenic River in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, approximately 8 miles east of Avery, Idaho on the St. Joe River Road (Forest Highway 50). The campground features 10 individual camping units and one group camping area that can accommodate up to 15 people, all available on a first-come, first-served basis. The facility provides vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump (typically available June through September), picnic tables at each site, and fire pits. Visitors must observe a pack it in, pack it out refuse policy as there is no trash service. The campground operates from Memorial Day weekend through fall (September or October), depending on weather conditions. The St. Joe Wild and Scenic River is the primary attraction, offering excellent fishing opportunities and river recreation. Tubing and floating are popular activities, particularly until mid-July when water levels are optimal. Other activities include day hiking, horseback riding with horse camping available, wildlife viewing, swimming, and scenic viewing. The area is known for its beautiful river setting and opportunities to experience Idaho's wilderness. Campers should contact the forest for current river conditions before planning water-based activities.
