Turner Flat Campground is a rustic USFS campground situated along the St. Joe Wild and Scenic River, approximately 8 miles east of Avery, Idaho on the St. Joe River Road (Forest Highway 50). The campground features 10 individual campsites plus one group camping area that accommodates up to 15 people, all available on a first-come, first-served basis. The site offers basic amenities including vault toilets and seasonal drinking water from a hand pump, typically available from June through September. Campers should be prepared to pack out all trash as the campground operates under a Pack It In, Pack It Out refuse policy. A day use area with picnic tables is also available. The St. Joe River provides excellent recreational opportunities including fishing and scenic floating. Tubing and floating are popular activities through mid-July when water levels remain adequate. The surrounding area offers hiking, horseback riding, wildlife observation, and access to the broader St. Joe Wild and Scenic River corridor.
