About

Shoshone Park is a pristine forested park with a stream running through the area, located at 3,600 feet elevation in a valley at the base of Runt Mountain in the Bitterroot Mountains. The park is part of Idaho Panhandle National Forests, located near the border of Montana and just a few miles east of the historic mining town of Mullan, Idaho. The park features two reservable kitchen shelters suitable for groups of all types, with both shelters equipped with large grills and piped drinking water. The West Kitchen Shelter includes electric hookups. In addition to the group kitchen facilities, the park includes 21 first-come, first-served picnic tables scattered throughout the grounds. Perks of the family-friendly site include a large baseball field for recreation and the Hale Fish Hatchery on the east end of the park. A point of particular interest is the Captain John Mullan historic cabin. Mullan was a 19th Century military commander who built a wagon road, which is used today as a hiking trail and snowmobiling route. Groups enjoy playing baseball on the open field, pitching horseshoes, barbecuing, and bird watching. A visit to the fish hatchery is always a rewarding experience for families and nature enthusiasts.

Directions

From Mullan, drive east on Friday Avenue, which turns into Larson Road. Total trip is about 3 miles. Look for signs to Shoshone Park. The West Kitchen is the first shelter when entering the park.
