About
Packsaddle Campground offers a rustic camping experience along the scenic St. Joe Wild and Scenic River corridor in northern Idaho. This small campground features just two sites, making it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The campground sits approximately 4.5 miles east of Avery along the St. Joe River Road. The campground provides basic amenities including a vault toilet and potable drinking water from a hand pump, though water is only available seasonally from June through October. Picnic tables are provided. Sites are available on a first come, first served basis with no advance reservations. Recreational opportunities include fishing in the St. Joe River and non-motorized boating. The Packsaddle Trail #26, a 3.5-mile single-track National Recreation Trail, originates at the campground for those interested in hiking.
