Located 10 miles east of Avery along the St. Joe River Road in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, Tin Can Flat Campground offers 11 well-shaded campsites adjacent to the St. Joe Wild and Scenic River. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations, making early arrival advisable during peak summer months. The campground features vault toilets and hand-pumped potable water, typically available from June through October. Each campsite includes a picnic table and accommodates up to two vehicles, with a third vehicle available for an additional fee. Campers should be prepared to pack out all trash following the campground's refuse policy. The sites are spacious enough to accommodate RVs, though no hookups are available. The St. Joe River provides excellent opportunities for fishing and floating, with floating conditions generally favorable until mid-July when water levels drop. The surrounding Idaho Panhandle National Forests offer day hiking opportunities and wildlife viewing. Visitors should note there is no cell phone service at the campground, and the nearest fuel and services are approximately 10-12 miles away in Avery.
