About

Fly Flat Campground is a secluded 14-site Forest Service campground located on the east banks of the St. Joe Wild and Scenic River within the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The campground sits in a densely forested area offering excellent opportunities for wild trout fishing, wildlife viewing, and hiking. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. The Fly Creek Trail #629 begins at the campground and follows Fly Creek for 8.3 miles to Twin Lakes and Road 201A, making this an ideal base camp for backcountry exploration. Potable water is available from a hand pump during the peak season (typically June through September), and vault toilets are provided. The campground operates on a pack-it-in, pack-it-out refuse policy. Access requires driving on Red Ives Road #218, a single-lane road with pullouts, so larger RVs and trailers may find maneuvering challenging. No cell phone service is available in this area.

Directions

From Avery, Idaho: Take St. Joe River Road (Forest Highway 50) 29 miles east, turn right on Red Ives Road #218 (single lane with pullouts) and proceed 3 miles to the campground. From St. Regis, Montana: Take Little Joe Road (#282) to the Idaho border where it becomes St. Joe River Road/Gold Creek Road (#388), then turn left on Red Ives Road #218 and proceed 3 miles to the campground.
