About

Fly Flat Campground is located along the St. Joe Wild and Scenic River in the remote reaches of Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The campground features 14 campsites set in a forested setting, providing a rustic base camp for anglers and hikers. The St. Joe River offers excellent wild trout fishing opportunities, and the adjacent Fly Creek Trailhead provides access to backcountry exploration. The campground operates under a pack-in, pack-out refuse policy, requiring visitors to carry out all trash. Access to Fly Flat requires a drive along the St. Joe River Road from Avery, Idaho, followed by a turn onto Red Ives Road, a single-lane road with pullouts. The remote location means no cell phone service is available. Potable water is provided via hand pump during the peak season months, typically June through September. The campground accommodates up to two vehicles per site, with a third vehicle allowed for an additional fee.

Directions

From Avery, Idaho take the St. Joe River Road (Forest Highway 50) 29 miles east, turn right on the Red Ives Road #218 (single lane with pullouts) and proceed 3 miles to the campground entrance.
