About
Tuff Campground is named for the volcanic Tuff rock formations scattered throughout the area. Located along Rock Creek just east of the Highway 395/Tom's Place junction, the campground occupies an open sagebrush landscape surrounded by aspens, cottonwood, and Jeffrey pine trees. The clear, cold waters of Rock Creek run alongside the campsites, providing a relaxing backdrop and excellent fishing opportunities. The campground offers 34 standard nonelectric sites spread across three loops, accommodating tents, small trailers, and RVs. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump, picnic tables, and mandatory bear boxes for food storage. Some sites are first-come, first-served while others are reservable through Recreation.gov. Rock Creek and nearby Rock Creek Lake and Crowley Lake are hot spots for trout fishing, with catches including brook, brown, rainbow, and stocked Alpers trout. The area's majestic scenery and trails attract hikers and mountain bikers. Wildlife in the area includes black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, pine marten, and pika. Tom's Place nearby offers supplies and fee showers.
