About
Trout Creek Campground occupies a scenic stretch along the South Santiam River in Willamette National Forest. The campground was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and retains its historic character, including a centrally located day use shelter with fireplace. The 24 sites are arranged on a single loop through a heavily wooded landscape of lichen and moss-draped alder, Douglas fir, hemlock, and maple trees. Campsites are well-shaded and surrounded by ferns and lush understory vegetation, with many sites stretching along the riverbank. The campground offers a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites, including four pull-throughs accommodating RVs from 24 to 40 feet and two tent-only sites. Facilities include vault toilets with ADA accessibility, potable water from a hand pump well, and picnic tables. There are no hookups, showers, or dump station on site. Recreation opportunities abound. Wading and fishing are popular in the river, and hikers have direct access to the 2.8-mile Trout Creek Trail leading into the Menagerie Wilderness. Across Highway 20, the Walton Ranch Interpretive Trail provides wheelchair-accessible wildlife viewing overlooking the historic Long Ranch elk refuge. The Old Santiam Wagon Road stretches along the Highway 20 corridor for history enthusiasts.
