About
Lakes End Campground offers one of the most remote camping experiences in Willamette National Forest. Situated on the north shore of the 170-acre Smith Reservoir, this primitive campground is accessible only by boat, requiring a 1.8-mile journey across the lake from the boat launch near the dam. The isolation makes it popular with anglers targeting the reservoir's stocked trout and campers seeking solitude away from road-accessible sites. The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables, fire pits, and vault toilets at no cost. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. A 14-day stay limit applies. Boats are subject to a 10 mph speed limit, and campers should watch for submerged hazards including stumps, logs, and rocks. Access can be limited by reservoir water levels, which are frequently drawn down from late summer through mid-March, potentially rendering the boat launch unusable. Small watercraft should avoid open waters during windy conditions. The campground has no trailer facilities and is unsuitable for RVs or large equipment.
Directions
Boat access only. From McKenzie Bridge, travel east on Highway 126 to Forest Road 732. Follow FR 732 around Trail Bridge Reservoir to Forest Road 730. Continue 2 miles on FR 730 to Smith Reservoir boat launch on the eastern shore. Travel by boat 1.8 miles north across the lake to Lakes End Campground.
