Currently closed for the season. Reopens May 22, 2026. The campground operates May through October. Six sites are reservable via Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance; three sites are first-come, first-served using Scan and Pay through the Recreation.gov app.
Alcohol Prohibitions

About
Big Meadows Horse Camp sits at 3,600 feet in the Willamette National Forest along Forest Service Road 2267, offering equestrian campers a well-equipped staging area for exploring the surrounding backcountry. The campground features 9 sites that accommodate vehicles and trailers up to 36 feet, with 6 sites reservable through Recreation.gov and 3 available first-come, first-served via the Scan and Pay system. Each campsite is designed for horse camping with a 4-stall corral or highline, hitching rack, and picnic table. The campground provides a shared loading ramp and stock water trough. Potable water is available via hand pump, and two single-vault toilets serve the facility. The access road is paved, but internal campground roads and adjacent forest travel surfaces are compacted rock. Several loop trails radiate from the campground into the forest, including Duffy Lake Trail, Big Meadows Loop Trail, and Big Meadows Tie Trail, providing access to the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. The campground operates from May through October with a 14-day stay limit.
Directions
From Detroit, Oregon, travel 25.6 miles east on State Highway 22 to Big Meadows Road (Forest Service Road 2267). Continue on Big Meadows Road for 0.9 miles to Forest Service Road 2257, then proceed 0.5 miles to the campground. From Sisters, head west on Highway 126/US 20 for 31.5 miles to Big Meadows Road (Forest Service Road 2267), then follow the same route.
