About

Tioga Point Campground is a primitive, boat-access-only New York State DEC campground situated on the eastern shore of Raquette Lake in Hamilton County. The campground offers 15 lean-tos and 10 tent sites, all accessible only by boat from the launch in Raquette Lake Village, approximately 3 miles to the south. This remote location provides a true wilderness camping experience with stunning views of Raquette Lake and the surrounding Adirondack mountains. The campground features basic amenities including picnic tables, fireplaces, and pit toilets, but no potable water is available, so campers must bring their own. The site borders the 36,000+ acre Sargent Pond Wild Forest Area, and the Tioga Point Trail begins within the campground, connecting into the larger wild forest trail system for excellent hiking opportunities. Raquette Lake offers world-class fishing for lake trout, brook trout, whitefish, smelt, smallmouth bass, and other species. Originally the site of the Raquette Lake Boys Camp operated by the Conservation Department from 1951 to 1966, the area was converted into a public campground in 1967-68. Today it serves as an ideal destination for experienced campers seeking a quiet, primitive camping experience away from vehicle traffic. Free parking is available at nearby Golden Beach campground for those launching their boats.
