About
Eighth Lake Campground sits on the southeast shore of 314-acre Eighth Lake, part of the Fulton Chain of Lakes in the central Adirondacks. The campground was opened to the public in 1935 after being developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. With 126 large and well-forested campsites, the facility accommodates camping equipment from tents to 40-foot RVs and provides privacy for campers. The campground offers excellent recreational opportunities including fishing for lake trout in Eighth Lake and adjacent salmon ponds, plus smallmouth bass. A sand beach provides swimming access, while boat and canoe rentals are available on-site. The hard-surface boat launch is the only public access point to the lake and can accommodate trailers with parking for 10 vehicles. Hikers can explore several trails directly from the campground. The Bug Lake trail begins within the campground and connects to the Seventh Lake, Black Bear Mountain, and Mike Norris trails in the Moose River Plains Wild Forest. The Seventh-Eighth Lake Loop trail, accessed across Route 28, provides an 8-mile loop. Area attractions include the Old Forge region, the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake, and golf courses at Inlet and Indian Lake.
