About
Lake Eaton Campground sits on the shores of Lake Eaton in the heart of the Central Adirondacks, just 1.5 miles north of Long Lake village. This New York State DEC campground features 135 tent and trailer sites, many offering secluded settings with lake views including the distinctive "Lady in the Mountain" formation across the water. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, and a trailer dump station, along with canoe, kayak, rowboat, and stand-up paddleboard rentals for exploring the lake. Lake Eaton offers excellent fishing opportunities for lake trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass, landlocked salmon, and multiple other species. Power boats are permitted on the lake, and a hand-launch boat ramp is available in the day-use area. Swimming is available from the designated beach area, and the campground features a blacktopped roadway popular with biking and walking enthusiasts. Hiking opportunities abound, with the Lake Eaton Trail beginning within the campground and following the lakeshore before connecting to the extensive Sargent Ponds Wild Forest trail system. The Owls Head Mountain Trail and its historic fire tower are also nearby. An interpretive nature trail along the northern boundary offers education about the local ecosystem. The campground is surrounded by the Sargent Ponds Wild Forest and serves as an excellent base for exploring the Central Adirondacks.
