Indian Lake Islands Campground is a distinctive wilderness camping destination spread across the islands and shoreline of 4,365-acre Indian Lake in the central Adirondacks. All 55 campsites are accessible only by boat, creating an exceptionally remote and peaceful camping experience that draws paddlers, anglers, and nature enthusiasts from across the region. Campers can launch from the campground's boat launches on Indian Lake or nearby Lewey Lake. The lake offers exceptional fishing for lake trout, landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, northern pike, rainbow trout, and brown trout. Hiking trails connect to the surrounding Adirondack wilderness, and the village of Indian Lake is 12 miles north on Route 30 for supplies and provisions. Each site features a fire ring and picnic table, with pit toilets located throughout the island and shoreline areas. This is primitive camping without hookups, showers, or potable water. Campers must bring all water and supplies, and follow carry-in, carry-out trash policies using clear or white bags only. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the campground, along with firewood and ice sales. Quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM are strictly enforced.

Directions

From the NYS Thruway (I-90), take Exit 27 at Amsterdam and head north on Route 30 through Wells and Speculator. The campground is 12 miles north of Speculator on Route 30. From the Adirondack Northway (I-87), take Exit 23 at Warrensburg, follow Route 9 North to Route 28 West to Indian Lake Village, then drive 12 miles south on Route 30.
