About

Brown Tract Pond Campground is located on the east shore of 146-acre Brown Tract Pond in a remote area of the Adirondacks, accessible via dirt Uncas Road near Raquette Lake. Opened in 1958, this DEC-operated facility remains one of the best kept secrets in the region, offering 90 large, well-forested campsites that provide exceptional privacy and seclusion. The campground accommodates both tent campers and RVs up to 30 feet in length. The campground provides flush toilets, a trailer dump station, picnic areas with tables and fireplaces, a recycling center, and firewood sales. Brown Tract Pond is limited to non-motorized watercraft only, with a hand-launch area and parking for 10 vehicles. Kayak and canoe rentals are available on-site. The pond offers fishing opportunities for smallmouth and largemouth bass, sunfish, yellow perch, brown bullhead, and occasionally brook trout. Marked hiking trails lead from the campground to Shallow Lake and West Mountain, with nearby trails accessing Black Bear Mountain, Bug Lake, Eagle Lake, and Eighth Lake. A designated beach area provides unsupervised swimming. The remote location and lack of motor boats create a peaceful atmosphere perfect for paddling, fishing, and enjoying the natural Adirondack wilderness.
