About
North Arm Campground sits tucked away on the northeastern shore of Timothy Lake in Mount Hood National Forest, offering a more isolated and tranquil experience compared to other campgrounds around the 1,400-acre reservoir. At 3,400 feet elevation in the shadow of Mt. Hood, the campground features 14 standard campsites and 4 hike-in sites situated in dense mixed conifer forest with thick understory providing privacy between sites. The campground includes accessible vault toilets, drinking water via hand pump, picnic tables, fire rings, and an improved boat launch with dock. The lake provides excellent opportunities for fishing (kokanee salmon, rainbow and brook trout, and crayfish), swimming, boating, kayaking, and canoeing. A 10 mph speed limit applies to motorized boats. The relatively level 12-mile Timothy Lake Trail circles the lake and is popular for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, connecting to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Little Crater Lake, a stunning geologic oddity with turquoise artesian water, is a short hike away. The wetlands near the campground offer wildlife viewing opportunities, and the area is known for huckleberry picking. Access to North Arm requires traveling on Forest Service roads—there are two routes, with the recommended route suitable for RVs and trailers crossing Timothy Lake Dam. The more rugged alternate route may not be suitable for all vehicles. The campground is managed by Portland General Electric as part of the Clackamas River Hydroelectric Project under partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
