About

Gone Creek Campground occupies a scenic position on the south shore of Timothy Lake, a 1,400-acre storage reservoir created in 1956 as part of the Oak Grove Hydroelectric Project. At 3,400 feet elevation in the shadow of Mt. Hood, the campground offers 49 sites in a lush mixed conifer forest, many with direct views of the water. Portland General Electric manages the campground in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. The lake supports excellent fishing for kokanee salmon and multiple trout species. Boating, sailing, swimming, and windsurfing are popular activities. The Timothy Lake Trail provides 12 miles of relatively level terrain circling the lake, suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The trail connects to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. The historic Clackamas Lake Ranger Station District, built in the early 1900s to house forest service workers, lies less than 2 miles away. All sites are reservable through Recreation.gov, with unreserved sites available first-come, first-served for single nights. Sites include fire rings with grills and picnic tables. Vault toilets and potable water are provided, though campers should fill water tanks before arrival. The campground has barrier-free campsites and restrooms for accessibility.
