About

Lone Point is a secluded campground situated on the western shore of Lake Shelbyville in central Illinois, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Set within a heavily forested area dominated by oak and hickory trees, the campground provides a variety of campsites capable of accommodating both large RVs and tent campers. Sites include electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and access to modern amenities such as flush toilets, showers, and drinking water. The adjacent Lone Point Day Use Area features a multi-lane boat ramp and courtesy dock, making this an excellent base for fishing Lake Shelbyville's abundant catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill. The campground also serves as a trailhead for the 11-mile Chief Illini backpacking trail, which winds along the lake shore. Additional recreation opportunities include wildlife watching for songbirds, waterfowl, and raptors, as well as hunting in nearby areas for deer, turkey, and waterfowl. The campground operates seasonally and requires reservations through Recreation.gov. Amenities include a dump station, fish cleaning station, playground, volleyball net, horseshoe pits, and an amphitheater for ranger programs. The fall foliage display of red, orange, purple, and yellow creates a particularly scenic backdrop for autumn camping.

Directions

From Shelbyville, Illinois, go 4.5 miles north on State Route 128 to County Road 1750 N. Turn right and drive 0.9 miles to County Road 1900 E, then make a left and go 0.35 mile. Turn right onto County Road 1785 N and continue 2.5 miles to County Road 2150 E. Turn right and go 0.7 mile to County Road 1725 N, then take a left and travel 0.25 mile to County Road 2175 E. Turn right and continue 0.7 mile to the campground.
