About
Lone Point Group Camp sits on the western shore of Lake Shelbyville, a US Army Corps of Engineers reservoir in central Illinois. The heavily forested area provides ample shade from oak and hickory trees. The group camp consists of 10 paved full-hookup sites with 30-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections, capable of accommodating up to 80 people total.
The facility features modern amenities including flush toilets, showers, a playground, and a dump station. A picnic shelter and group firepit serve as gathering areas, with swings providing additional recreation. Site dimensions range from 10x45 to 10x80 feet. Group leaders must check in at the Lone Point Campground fee booth during operating hours.
Lake Shelbyville offers excellent fishing for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill. The adjacent Lone Point Day Use Area provides a multi-lane boat ramp and courtesy dock. The 11-mile Chief Illini backpacking trail begins nearby and runs along the lake's edge. Hunting areas within a short drive offer quail, rabbit, pheasant, deer, dove, turkey, waterfowl, and woodcock. Wolf Creek State Park and Woods Lake Waterfowl Refuge are popular nearby destinations for wildlife watching and birding.
