About
Sulak Campground is a rustic, no-fee campground located in the Manistee National Forest near Baldwin, Michigan. Operated by the USFS Baldwin Ranger District, the campground provides 12 primitive campsites on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground is primarily used by anglers, hunters, and families who appreciate a back-to-basics camping experience in a natural setting. The campground sits near the South Branch of the Pere Marquette National Scenic River, with a short quarter-mile walk from the campsites to the river access point. This river access is operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and passes through both federal and state land. The Pere Marquette River is renowned for its trout and salmon fishing, making this a popular destination during fishing season. Facilities at Sulak are minimal, reflecting its primitive character. Vault toilets are available during the operating season, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own. The campground has parking for approximately 45 vehicles. The site is maintained seasonally from May 1 through October 31, with no maintenance during the off-season when access roads are not plowed and toilet facilities are unavailable. A camping permit is required from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
