About
Bear Track Campground occupies a scenic location along the Little Manistee River within the Manistee National Forest in Lake County, Michigan. The campground earned its name from a bear track found during site construction years ago. With 16 campsites and a capacity for 20 vehicles, Bear Track maintains a quiet, intimate atmosphere that appeals to those seeking a more primitive camping experience in the forest. The campground serves as a popular destination for river paddlers and anglers drawn to the Little Manistee River, which is part of the National Wild and Scenic Study River system. Fishing opportunities abound in the river, and the nearby wetlands area provides excellent wildlife viewing. A 1.5-mile connector trail links the campground to the North Country National Scenic Trail, offering backpackers and day hikers access to one of America's longest scenic trails. Non-motorized boating is permitted on the river, and several commercial paddlesport outfitters operate in the area. Each campsite includes a fire pit with cooking grate and picnic table. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own drinking water. The facility is managed by American Land & Leisure as part of the Manistee Ranger District. Standard Forest Service rules apply, including regulations on motorized vehicle use, overnight occupancy, and sanitation. The campground's remote forest setting and river access make it an ideal base for those looking to explore the natural beauty of the Manistee National Forest.
