Gleasons Landing

Gleasons Landing sits on a wooded bluff above the Pere Marquette River, the first designated National Scenic River in Michigan. The campground offers six tent-only sites, including four individual walk-in sites with river views and two group sites accommodating up to 20 people each. Each site features a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water; campers must treat or filter water from the river or bring their own supply. The Pere Marquette River is renowned for world-class fishing. Gleasons Landing marks the upstream boundary of a fly-fishing-only, catch-and-release zone that extends downstream. Above this point, reel fishing is permitted. The free-flowing river supports healthy populations of resident brown trout, steelhead, and salmon. A boat ramp within the campground provides access for canoes, kayaks, and drift boats. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, a watercraft permit is required to float the river and can be reserved through Recreation.gov. Short trails along the riverbank offer scenic walks and additional shore fishing access. The North Country National Scenic Trail trailhead is a short drive away for those seeking longer hikes.

Directions

From Baldwin, take 7th Street west 5 blocks to Cherry Street, then south 1.5 blocks to 52nd Street (Carr Road). Go west 2 miles to Jenks Road and turn left. Drive 0.4 miles and turn right on Shortcut Road, continue 0.7 miles. Turn right at the T-junction onto 60th Street and take the first left onto S Brooks Road. Follow the road to the campground.
