About

Highbanks Campground is situated on the shores of 20-acre Highbank Lake, a pristine body of water completely surrounded by Manistee National Forest land. This established campground is a favorite among anglers seeking quality lake fishing and hikers exploring the region's extensive trail system. The beach area is particularly family-friendly, with shallow waters and a sandy bottom that makes for excellent swimming conditions. The campground's location provides convenient access to the North Country National Scenic Trail and nearby Sawkaw Lake. The peaceful, forested setting offers a true northern Michigan camping experience while remaining accessible from Baldwin via M-37 and forest roads. Facilities include vault toilets and previously included potable water, though water availability should be verified. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through early September and is gated when closed during the off-season. Forest quiet hours are enforced to maintain the natural ambiance of this lakeside retreat.
