About
Nichols Lake South Campground occupies a prime position on the southern shore of 160-acre Nichols Lake within the Huron-Manistee National Forests in Newaygo County, Michigan. The campground offers 29 family sites on paved spurs, each equipped with a fire pit and picnic table. Facilities include flush toilets, showers, and potable drinking water. The lake itself provides excellent fishing opportunities for bass, bluegill, pumpkinseed, black crappie, and northern pike, accessible from shore, an accessible fishing pier, or by boat via the paved launch. A designated swimming beach with buoyed swim areas is available, though no lifeguards are on duty. Ice fishing draws visitors during winter months. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through the recreation area near the boat ramp, connecting hikers to one of America's premier long-distance trails. A day use area on the north side of the lake accommodates visitors not camping overnight. The nearest towns of Woodland, Bitely, and Brohman are approximately two miles south.
