Bowman Bridge Recreation Area Campground

Open

Open for the 2026 season, early May through mid-October. Pere Marquette National Scenic River restrictions are currently in effect. Watercraft permit required from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

About

Bowman Bridge Campground provides a classic national forest camping experience on the banks of the Pere Marquette National Scenic River, a 66-mile stretch of clear, unspoiled waters renowned for fly fishing and paddling. The campground offers 16 paved family campsites arranged in a single loop, 4 walk-in sites for a more secluded experience, and 4 tent-only group sites accommodating up to 20 people each. A 2005 tornado reduced the tree canopy, but the wooded setting remains pleasant. The Pere Marquette River is the main attraction, drawing anglers targeting steelhead, salmon, and brown trout, as well as paddlers seeking a scenic float. A connector trail links the campground to the North Country National Scenic Trail for day hiking. Watercraft permits are required from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and can be obtained via Recreation.gov. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from faucets. Sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 50 feet on paved back-in driveways. Campfires are permitted but campers must use local firewood only; outside firewood is prohibited to prevent spread of invasive pests.
