About
Walkup Lake Campground is a rustic Forest Service facility located on the shores of Walkup Lake in the Manistee National Forest's Baldwin Ranger District. This small campground provides a peaceful retreat for campers seeking a more primitive experience in Michigan's north woods. The campground offers direct access to Walkup Lake, which is popular for fishing and both motorized and non-motorized boating. Ice fishing is also available during winter months, though the campground itself is closed for camping. The facility operates as a first-come, first-served campground with no reservations available. Amenities are basic and include vault toilets, though drinking water is not available on-site. Campers should come prepared to bring their own water supply. The campground is not gated during the off-season, but facilities are not maintained in winter, with no water or toilet facilities available and roads not plowed. The campground is located near the North Country National Scenic Trail and other nearby recreation areas including Nichols Lake North and South campgrounds. With only 7 vehicle parking spaces, this intimate campground offers a quiet experience for those looking to escape crowds and enjoy lakeside camping in the national forest.
