About

Walkup Lake Campground is a rustic, low-key camping destination tucked away on Walkup Lake within Michigan's Manistee National Forest, managed by the Baldwin/White Cloud Ranger District. The small campground provides a peaceful retreat for campers seeking solitude and direct lake access without the crowds of larger developed campgrounds. The campground offers basic amenities including vault toilets and potable drinking water available from a hand pump. Recreation opportunities center on the lake itself, with fishing being the primary draw. Anglers can pursue lake and pond fishing during warmer months, while ice fishing is popular in winter. Both motorized and non-motorized boating are permitted on the lake. The campground operates year-round but is not maintained from November 1 through April 30. During the off-season, the site remains accessible but services are limited and the access road is not plowed. The area is well-suited for self-sufficient campers comfortable with primitive conditions during winter months.
