About

Stoughton Pond Recreation Area is a day-use facility managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, located north of North Springfield Lake in the Green Mountains of central Vermont. Situated among rolling hills on the North Branch of the Black River, the park features open lawns with hardwood and softwood trees providing shade and wildlife habitat. The recreation area offers a variety of activities including swimming at a sandy beach, boating (with a boat ramp accessible from Plains Road), fishing for stocked rainbow trout and bass, and hiking an interpretive trail that winds along the pond through wetlands and uplands. Ten family picnic sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and a group picnic shelter with tables and a large grill can be reserved. Amenities include flush toilets, a change house, and drinking water. This is a day-use only facility with no overnight camping permitted. The park is staffed by uniformed rangers who offer nature programs throughout the season. Visitors should note this is a pack-in, pack-out facility, pets are not allowed, and only charcoal or gas grills are permitted.
