About

Thistle Hill Shelter is a traditional three-sided Appalachian Trail shelter situated in the Green Mountain National Forest near Pomfret, Vermont. The shelter provides basic protection from the elements with a roof and raised wooden sleeping platform, facing east toward the White River valley with views of sunrise. This primitive backcountry site is maintained for thru-hikers and backpackers traveling the Appalachian Trail. The shelter operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system or fees required. Water must be treated or filtered from nearby natural sources. The shelter is accessible via the Appalachian Trail and is typical of the rustic backcountry accommodations found along Vermont's long-distance hiking trails.
