About
Steamboat Ball Field Group Site sits near the banks of the North Umpqua River under a canopy of forest in Umpqua National Forest. This reservation-only group campground accommodates up to 100 people with a maximum of 20 vehicles, making it ideal for large gatherings and group camping excursions. The site is equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, grills, and accessible vault toilets, along with a full-sized baseball field, horseshoe pits, and a covered picnic shelter with a large grill. The North Umpqua River, a designated National Wild and Scenic River, flows adjacent to the campground and is renowned for its emerald green waters and exceptional fly fishing opportunities. Anglers can fish for rainbow, steelhead, and cutthroat trout, while swimmers can brave the river's cold, refreshing waters against a backdrop of forested banks and mountains. The 79-mile North Umpqua Trail, which begins at Maidu Lake in the Mount Thielsen Wilderness, offers exceptional hiking and mountain biking opportunities nearby. Umpqua National Forest's nearly 1 million acres showcase the unique landscapes of southwestern Oregon, shaped by explosive geologic events. The diverse ecosystems support abundant wildlife including eagles, owls, salamanders, and salmon. Several designated wilderness areas, including the 19,100-acre Boulder Creek Wilderness with its dense old-growth forests and steep terrain, provide undisturbed solitude for visitors seeking backcountry experiences.
