Alcohol Prohibitions

This Order describes acts that are prohibited upon lands, roads and trails within the National Forest System administered by the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region in regards to alcoholic beverages.

Aquatic Invasive Species

This Order prohibits 1) possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic invasive animal species AND 2) prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic or riparian invasive plant species - on National Forest System lands in the Pacific Northwest Region as specified in the Order.

Restrictions on Use of Forage and Mulch Products

This Order prohibits unloading, storing, or using any straw, hay, grain, seed, or other forage or mulch products that are not state-certified weed free on the National Forest System lands, roads or trails in any Closure Area as specific in the Order.

Umpqua National Forest Ranger Stations Holiday Closures

All Umpqua National Forest Offices will be closed on December 24 and December 25, 2025 and January 1, 2026.Umpqua National Forest Headquarters in Roseburg will be closed December 25 and December 26, 2025.

Forest Road Closures and Delays

Expect DelaysOn the Cottage Grove Ranger District, Herman Creek Bridge repair and work on National Forest Service Road 1700-623 is occurring. One lane will remain open, expect delays. Drive with caution in the area as staff may also be working under the bridge.

Trail Closures or Alerts

Dread and Terror section of the North Umpqua TrailLocated approximately 1.75 miles upriver from the start of the Dread and Terror section of the North Umpqua Trail (from the Umpqua Hot Springs Trailhead) a boulder has severely damaged the bridge

Camping within a five-mile radius for longer than 14 days and staying longer than 28 calendar days in a given year is prohibited.

About

Deer Flat Group Site is a reservation-only group campground situated within Horseshoe Bend Campground along the Wild and Scenic North Umpqua River in Umpqua National Forest. The group site features 9 paved spurs around a single loop on a knoll above the main campground, providing good separation and privacy under a canopy of old-growth Douglas fir and sugar pine. The site can accommodate up to 70 people, making it ideal for large family gatherings and group camping excursions. The North Umpqua River is renowned for outstanding salmon and steelhead fishing, with almost 34 miles designated as Wild and Scenic. The Illahee Flat Trail descends from nearby Horseshoe Bend Campground and connects to the Jessie Wright Segment of the North Umpqua Trail. The 79-mile North Umpqua Trail parallels the river and offers challenging hiking and mountain biking experiences. A boat launch at Horseshoe Bend provides access for rafters and kayakers seeking exhilarating whitewater challenges. The campground is operated by a concessionaire under permit from the Umpqua National Forest and is located approximately 48 miles east of Roseburg off Highway 138. Access is via Forest Road 4750 and Forest Road 4750-001 through Horseshoe Bend Campground.

Directions

From Roseburg, travel east on OR-138/Diamond Lake Boulevard for approximately 48 miles. Turn right on Forest Road 4750, then right again on Forest Road 4750-001. The group site is to the right at the first road junction inside Horseshoe Bend Campground.
