About
Lake In The Woods Campground is tucked into the mixed conifer forest of Umpqua National Forest, bordering a small 4-acre, man-made lake that tops out at 8 feet deep. The setting is quiet and remote, reached via 20 miles of paved Little River Road followed by 7 miles of gravel Forest Road 27. A historic trail cabin built in 1907 remains on site. The campground has 11 standard sites suitable for tents or trailers up to 35 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Flush toilets are available, but there is no potable water, trash service, dump station, or hookups. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The lake prohibits motorized boats, making it ideal for float tubes, canoes, or shore fishing. The campground operates first-come, first-served with payment via Scan & Pay through the Recreation.gov app. Quiet hours run 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Dogs are allowed on leash (6 feet max) and must be confined at night. The site may be inaccessible during winter months due to snow on the gravel access road.
Directions
From the North Umpqua Ranger Station (16 miles east of Roseburg on Highway 138), head west on Highway 138 for 1/4 mile to Little River Road #17. Follow Little River Road for 20 miles until it becomes Forest Service Road 27 (gravel). Continue 7 miles to the campground.
