Air Quality Alert issued August 7 at 10:22AM PDT by NWS Medford OR

August 7th, 10:22 AM — 12:00 PM

Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory...in effect until noon PDT Monday for eastern Douglas County...mainly for areas in the south Umpqua River valley near Tiller and the Umpqua National Forest east of Steamboat. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels at times. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. About

Scaredman Recreation Site is a remote, minimally developed campground managed by the BLM Roseburg District, situated along Canton Creek at 1,390 feet elevation. The campground offers 10 standard nonelectric campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A vault toilet facility serves the campground, though drinking water spigots are currently not operational. The site provides access to excellent swimming opportunities in the undeveloped swimming holes along both Canton Creek and Steamboat Creek. Note that both creeks are closed to all angling. For fishing enthusiasts, the North Umpqua River lies just 3 miles downstream and is renowned for world-class fly-fishing. Nearby recreation includes whitewater rafting on the North Umpqua, hiking, waterfall viewing, and driving the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway. There is no camp host on site, and firewood is not available for purchase.
