About

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is a historic oasis located within Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, approximately 30 minutes west of Las Vegas. The 528-acre park preserves the historic Sandstone Ranch, which served as both a working ranch and luxury retreat under a succession of colorful owners including Chester Lauck of Lum & Abner, German actress Vera Krupp, and millionaire Howard Hughes. Today visitors can explore some of Nevada's oldest buildings including an 1860s blacksmith shop, the Sandstone Cabin, and the ranch house. The park offers tree-shaded picnic sites with tables and grills, hiking trails through diverse plant communities ranging from desert scrub to riparian zones, and a visitor center with self-guided tours. A large group use area can accommodate up to 200 people and is available by reservation through Reserve Nevada. The park sits at a higher elevation than Las Vegas, providing cooler temperatures and diverse wildlife viewing opportunities. Spring Mountain Ranch is strictly a day-use park with no camping permitted. Cultural events including Super Summer Theatre performances run from May through September.
