About

Hilltop Campground provides a forested desert oasis in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, just 40 miles northwest of downtown Las Vegas. Situated at 8,400 feet elevation, the campground features 35 single and double campsites nestled among stands of juniper, mountain mahogany, and ponderosa pine. Campers enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the Mojave Desert below and the Spring Mountains above, creating a dramatic contrast between desert and alpine environments. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring over 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails in the area. The North Loop-Mt. Charleston National Recreation Trail begins just 1/4-mile from the campground, while Robber's Roost and the CCC Trailhead are also easily accessible. The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the ancient Bristlecone pine and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly. More than 100 springs throughout the mountain range create a unique ecosystem and provide relief from the desert heat. The campground offers a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites (odd-numbered sites are reservable, even-numbered are walk-up). All sites include picnic tables, campfire rings, and grills, with paved roads and parking spurs. Due to the narrow campground road with tight turns, trailers longer than 25 feet are not recommended. The hilltop location can experience occasional high winds. The Spring Mountains Visitor Center is nearby, offering guided hikes and educational programs about this remarkable desert mountain ecosystem.
