About

Cathedral Rock Picnic Area sits at the top of Kyle Canyon in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, approximately 30 miles northwest of Las Vegas. This day-use facility provides a forested escape from the desert heat, situated among ponderosa pine, white fir, aspen, mountain mahogany, and Gambel oak that offer partial shade and views of the surrounding Spring Mountains. The facility includes 80 individual picnic sites and two group picnic units, each equipped with large picnic tables, serving tables, BBQ pedestals, and cement site pads. Vault toilets, potable drinking water, and trash collection are provided. Charcoal grills are available but wood fires are prohibited. The path from parking to picnic sites does not currently meet accessibility standards. This is strictly a day-use facility with no overnight camping. Operating hours during summer are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and entrance gates are locked outside these times. The nearby Cathedral Rock and South Loop trailheads provide access to hiking opportunities in the Spring Mountains.

Directions

From Las Vegas, take Highway 95 north to junction with Highway 157/Kyle Canyon. Turn left and travel approximately 21 miles to the picnic area at the end of the highway.
