About

Spillway Group Campground is situated among tall ponderosa pine, oak and Douglas fir at 7,500 feet elevation, overlooking the calm blue waters of 52-acre Woods Canyon Lake. This single group site accommodates up to 25 people and 6 vehicles, making it ideal for small gatherings. The campground provides paved access, picnic tables, fire grills, vault toilets, and potable water. Tents, trailers and small motorhomes up to 16 feet are allowed. Woods Canyon Lake is one of seven lakes in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area and one of the most visited. The lake allows only electric trolling motors for boating, and trout fishing is a favorite activity. A scenic loop trail circles the lake, offering pleasant hiking opportunities through the surrounding pine forest. Free interpretive nature programs can be scheduled for groups staying at Spillway by contacting 1000trlsinterp@gmail.com well ahead of arrival. The Woods Canyon Lake Store and Marina is within walking distance, offering groceries, camping and fishing equipment, and watercraft rentals. The campground is located in a thick forest setting where visitors may see squirrels, deer, elk and a variety of birds. Nearby trails offer views of the Mogollon Rim, a 200-mile long cliff that serves as the geographical dividing line between Arizona's high country and desert regions.

Directions

From Payson, take Highway 260 northeast toward Heber. Turn left onto Forest Road 300 directly across from the Rim Visitor Information Station and follow for 5 miles. Turn right at Woods Canyon Lake Road (Forest Road 105). Spillway Group is adjacent to Spillway Campground.
